Roberto Batista, teaching Art and living Art

This Spanish artist was born in 1954 in Villa de Mazo, a Spanish municipality located on the island of La Palma, belonging to the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands.

He has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of La Laguna. He has been a professor of Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and of Visual and Plastic Education in Secondary School. For 30 years, he has combined teaching with artistic work. Since 2011, he has fully dedicated himself to his artistic activity.

He develops his work in the city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, where he has his studio and habitual residence. Painting is the expressive medium with which he feels most identified and which has always been part of his artistic itinerary – oil, acrylic, watercolor and graphite are generally present in his work. Photography also occupies an important space in his artistic work.

The theme around which he develops his work has always revolved around those great questions that as human beings have shaped our concerns and that, among others, in turn, establish new questions about our condition and the relationship we establish with others, as a society and with nature as an entity, as a whole.

He proposes work in series as a way of using different words and establishing different reasoning to talk about the same concerns, those that are part of his personal ideology. A way of communicating the same ideas that underlie as a repository of what reality is generating in him.
