ARCO Madrid was a showcase to display the results of ART GOMA

ARCO Madrid is one of the most important international contemporary art fairs, where galleries, artists, collectors and art lovers meet to explore the latest trends and cultural expressions.

And the ART GOMA Gallery of Tenerife was present there as one of its active participants. In its 2024 edition, ARCO Madrid was presented as a space for reflection and dialogue on the main cultural and social problems of the present.

One of the highlighted topics at ARCO Madrid 2024 was sustainability and the environment. At a time when the climate crisis and concern for the future of the planet are at the center of the global agenda, many artists are addressing these issues in their works.

From installations that reflect on the human impact on nature to pieces that promote environmental awareness, sustainability is a recurring theme in the artistic proposals presented at the fair.

Another relevant topic at ARCO Madrid 2024 was cultural diversity and inclusion. In an increasingly interconnected world, artists are exploring the multiple identities and experiences that make up our society. Through works that celebrate ethnic, cultural, gender and sexual diversity, the objective was to promote inclusion and equality, as well as encourage respect for differences and the construction of more just and plural societies.

In addition, technology and artificial intelligence were themes present at ARCO Madrid 2024. Many artists today are using digital tools and algorithms to create innovative works that challenge the limits between the real and the virtual. From interactive installations to generative pieces, technology is creatively integrated into contemporary art, offering new forms of experimentation and artistic expression.

In this sense, ART GOMA served as moderator of a round table on art and artificial intelligence with the following topics:

  • Creative Intelligence: The fusion of artistic genius and artificial innovation
  • Creative Synergies: The transformative impact of AI on art, artists and galleries
  • Amplified Art: How Artificial Intelligence is Reimagining Art and Artist Promotion
  • Is what makes AI art?
  • Creative Coexistence: Demystifying the debate between art generated by AI and the essence of the human artist
  • How Artificial Intelligence becomes the muse of the modern artista

Rosa María Aguilar Chinea, computer engineer, Karen López, businesswoman and gallery owner, an artist and an expert participated in the Debate Table to give the focus on intellectual property, copyright, and it was moderated by Pawel Stepien, marketing expert.

The participants in this Debate Table presented their points of view, as diverse as the artistic tastes of each author are.

During the opening day of ARCO 2024, the ART GOMA Stand was one of those chosen for the visit route of the King of Spain, Felipe VI, who showed interest in cultural promotion in the Canary Islands.

Throughout the Fair, the Goma Stand was visited by the Minister of Culture of Spain, Ernest Urtasun, as well as by the Secretary General of Culture Jordi Martí Grau, who spoke with the artists present about the challenges of art in these very times. marked by technologies.

During the Fair we also met with Celestino Hernández Sánchez, director of the Eduardo Westerdahl Museum of Contemporary Art (MACEW), to talk about the importance of cultural promotion from museums and galleries.

The ARCO Fair was an excellent space to strengthen working relationships with different artistic associations or guilds, such as the Union of Contemporary Artists of Spain (@uniondeartistascontemporaneos), who served as one of the organizers of this Stand where GOMA was presented.

ART GOMA also met with the Associated Visual Artists of Madrid (@avamartistas); Grouped Visual Artists of Castilla y León (@ava_castilla_y_leon); the Professional Association of Artists of Galicia (@acolectiva); the Association of Visual Artists of the Canary Islands (@aicav_asociacion); the Association of Visual Artists of Valencia, Alicante and Castilla (@avvac); the Visual Artists and Associates of Extremadura (@avaexasociacion) and the Union of Visual Artists of Andalusia (@uava_org).

With all of them we share debates, reflections and common spaces at the fairgrounds.

Historical memory and reflection on the past were also relevant themes at ARCO Madrid 2024. Through works that revisit traumatic episodes or significant moments in recent history, the artists invited the public to reflect on the legacy of the past and its impact on the present.

These artistic proposals aimed to generate a critical dialogue about collective memory, historical justice and the construction of alternative narratives.

In conclusion, ARCO Madrid 2024 was presented as a space for meeting and reflection where different artistic and cultural visions converge around fundamental issues for our contemporary society.
