Javier de la Rosa, poet, writer, playwright and visual artist

This poet, writer, playwright and visual artist was born on April 10, 1949 in San Cristobal de la Laguna, Tenerife, Canary Islands. He holds a degree in performing and dramatic arts in Madrid, a degree in Theology and a Diploma in religious sciences in Burgos, Comillas and Tenerife.

“I started in the world of poetry at the age of five or six, early […] From then on, the poet was born, although I believe that the poet is born before expressing himself. According to my mother […] she always told me that since I was a child, poetry was latent in me, staring absorbed in the moon and its metaphor, and I continue to be in love with it.”

His poetic work on the city of La Laguna was published by the Biken Foundation in Japan.

In 2007 he was awarded the 1st National Prize for Poetry on the Sea, Brisa Marina, given by the Ferrolana Artistic Society (SAF) for his poetic work. In 2015 the International Association of Writers and Artists (IWA) proposed him as a candidate for the 2015 Nobel Prize in Literature.

His poetic work and novel, published by the City Council of La Laguna, about the city, entitled: La Laguna, sus calles, la vega; Galdós enamorado, and by the Huerga y Fierro Publishing House in Madrid, “La Laguna ciudad sola”.

His poetry collections were published by the Madrid publishing house Huerga y Fierro and he organised recitals in Madrid, about the Canary Islands and the city of Aguere and in the city of Astorga, León, where he has donated works by Canary plastic artists from his private collection in the Casa Panero, in the aforementioned Maragata city of the Astorga and Valderrey City Council.

His poems were published by international magazines such as: “A la luz”, from the University of Riverside, California, inspired and developed for and by the city of La Laguna.

His work has been recognised by the main critics in the world, including that of the professor of literature at the University of León, José María Balcells, who defines him as an author of profound lyricism and a unique literary personality.
